Can allergy drops help my sinuses?

It’s true. Allergy drops just might help relieve the pain and pressure from sinusitis.

What is sinusitis?

Sinusitis is the inflammation of the hollow cavities around the cheekbones, found behind the nose and around the eyes. Although more common in the winter, it can last for months — even years — if not properly treated. Allergy sufferers are also much more likely to develop chronic sinusitis than people without allergies.

Symptoms of sinusitis

  • Facial pressure (especially around upper cheeks and nose)
  • Headaches
  • Fever
  • Postnasal drip and/or green or gray nasal discharge
  • Congestion
  • Cough

How can allergy drops help?

Allergy sufferers are much more likely to develop chronic sinusitis. Sublingual immunotherapy (allergy drops) can help those with underlying inhalant allergies.

Sublingual immunotherapy can be helpful for patients with sinusitis who have underlying environmental allergies. By addressing the cause of sinus problems and treating the allergy instead of just temporarily reducing symptoms through over-the-counter medications, allergy sufferers can change the course of their condition.

Research shows that patients treating allergies with sublingual immunotherapy reported fewer sinus infections and complications, including improving outcomes and reducing the incidence of sinus surgery.
